Business Cadetship - Open a world of opportunity
Study + work

Study

As a Business Cadet, you will typically choose to undertake an economics, commerce, or business degree. However, if you intend studying a degree in I.T., arts, social sciences, health sciences or nursing and you also have an interest in business you should consider applying. It should be possible for you to study part-time in whatever degree program you choose.

While your choice of degree majors will usually be up to you, a Business Cadetship allows you to discover at work where your strengths lie and to tailor your degree as your professional interests develop.

To be considered for a Business Cadetship, you will need to expect a UAI of at least 85 (or an IB score of at least 30).

Work

Your Business Cadetship is typically a four year partnership with the company that you work for. The integration of study and work is flexible and will be negotiated to suit you and the company.

Depending on the requirements of the company and of your university degree, the structure of your cadetship might be:

  • full-time work with part-time study
  • full-time study and part-time work
  • a blend of the above options
  • a 6 months work and 6 months study 'sandwich' each year
  • an alternative structure to be determined

University degrees have different attendance requirements and mandated hours of study. Similarly, business hours vary among companies and a Business Cadet will negotiate with his or her company the time commitments of study and work.

Study + Work = Competitive advantage

Consider the differences between studying at university and combining study with work as a Business Cadet:

University student Business Cadet
Pays university fees Receives a secure remuneration package
Learns about the world in theory Puts theory into real world practice
Is unsure of academic strengths Discovers at work where strengths lie and tailors degree accordingly
Has limited opportunity to experience the business world Has unlimited opportunities to experience the world of banking and finance
Does not know what the future holds on graduation Has a sound understanding of business practices and the competitive edge on graduation
